Electronic Applications
Some companies require applicants to fill out an electronic application. This is not the same as emailing your resume to a human resources manager, or an electronic resume. This is an application with specific questions that you need to fill out on your computer and have them sent away. So how do you make yourself stand out in a large applicant pool?
- Fill out your application thoroughly and carefully. Make sure that you don’t make small mistakes entering your data. Follow the directions.
- Like any resume, this application should be directed at a specific position. Make sure that your resume is tailored to the position that you seek; use words from the job ad to show your commitment.
- Complete all the fields, even those that are optional.
- Take any assessment test online that they offer (even if it is not necessary).
- If possible, use your computer’s spell check and grammar check before submitting your application.
- Use a strong objective statement.
- Use the comment section to include any information that you feel will highlight your aptitude for the job. You might also use this section to demonstrate the research you have done about the job, the company, and the industry.
- Send a follow-up email to the recruiter. You may call instead, so long as there are no specifications about not phoning.
