Objective Statements

Your objective statement should focus on a single position with one company.  Be sure to personalize your objective statement for each resume you submit.  This is very important because receiving a resume with an objective that doesn’t match the position applied for will turn hiring managers off before they even get to your skills and experiences.

Keep your objective to the point: you don’t want to have more than one or two sentences.  Also, try not to use vague phrases, such as “where I can utilize my skills to face new challenges.”  Be specific.

One of the most basic formats for objective statements is “position x at company y where z is needed.”

Here are some samples of effective objective statements.

Objective: a creative position at a restaurant design office that seeks fashionable, innovative, and affordable new design ideas.

Objective:  senior management in financial affairs at a leading computer software company that needs a leader with accounting experience, integrity, and business savvy to continue growing rapidly.

Objective:  a position teaching English in Korea to students seeking to master the basics of written and spoken English from a well-trained native speaker.

Objective:  manager at a fast-paced restaurant that needs an experienced restaurateur to help schedule, payroll, and supervise a positive guest-oriented staff.

Objective:   cashier at a family-oriented store seeking friendly, approachable, and knowledgeable customer service support.
